Artist Painter, Alex Omar Garcia
I was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico and raised in Allentown, Pennsylvania. In June
of 2005 I relocated with my wife and children to a small west Texas town named Canutillo (a few miles west of El Paso).
I have been involved creatively for most of my life employing various mediums including pencil, ink, markers, and acrylic. While in high school I was introduced to the work of Andrew Wyeth via a class trip to the Brandywine Museum in Chadds Ford, PA. I was mesmerized by the imagery and fascinated by the description of the egg tempera medium. While I did not immediately adopt egg tempera, the visit to the museum served to implant the seeds that would later transform into my current passion and commitment.
A trip to Los Angeles, California provided the impetus to pursue my artistic career. This journey began with an exploration into various mediums-most of which left me frustrated. As I poured over the few art books I had accumulated over the years I noticed a reoccurring pattern in the types of artists I was drawn to - their use of egg tempera. This discovery motivated me to do some research regarding the medium I had been intrigued by in my early years. After much research and experimentation I had finally found a medium that suited my sensibilities. My interests include drawing, luminous color and rich surface qualitythings which egg tempera can do very well.
I look forward to developing my visual language into a robust and articulate vocabulary which will allow me to communicate with the viewer something about myself. When a person looks at my work I want them to see me in it and to also see something of themselves in it, to relate and be engaged with it.
I earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Kutztown University. My influences and artists
My study include George Tooker, Paul Cadmus, Andrew Wyeth, N.C. Wyeth, Jared French, Edward Hopper, Diego Rivera and others.
